The Mitford Murders

It's 1919, and Louisa Cannon dreams of escaping her life of poverty in London, and most of all her oppressive and dangerous uncle.
Louisa's salvation is a position within the Mitford household at Asthall Manor, in the Oxfordshire countryside. There she will become nurserymaid, chaperone and confidante to the Mitford sisters, especially sixteen-year-old Nancy - an acerbic, bright young woman in love with stories.
But when a nurse - Florence Nightingale Shore, goddaughter of her famous namesake - is killed on a train in broad daylight, Nancy and amateur sleuth Louisa find that in postwar England, everyone has something to hide . . .

This «Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie» crime was really enjoyable! Perfect with a cup of tea and biscuits.
Will give this to Sota48 next time I see her, I think she'll enjoy it.

I'm in two minds about this novel. Not what I expected. Rather than being Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie, it feels like a Nancy Drew Mystery with a dash of Dickens light thrown in and Bill Sikes lurching in the bushes. Maybe it is different if you know the history of Florence Nightingale Shore inside out. I had never heard of her before, not to mention the Mitford family who also turned out to be authentic. I shall have to read some of the books Fellowes got inspiration from. The Mitfords cannot be as one dimensional as they are made out to be in this book.
I prefer a proper Agatha Christie any time.
