SPIES, POISON, AND CURSES SURROUND HER. . . . IS THERE ANYONE SHE CAN TRUST?
The Kingmaker’s Daughter—Philippa Gregory’s first sister story since The Other Boleyn Girl—is the gripping tale of the daughters of the man known as the Kingmaker, Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick: the most powerful magnate in fifteenth-century England. Without a son and heir, he uses his daughters, Anne and Isabel, as pawns in his political games, and they grow up to be influential players in their own right.

At the court of Edward IV and his beautiful queen, Elizabeth Woodville, Anne grows from a delightful child to become ever more fearful and desperate when her father makes war on his former friends. Married at age fourteen, she is soon left widowed and fatherless, her mother in sanctuary and her sister married to the enemy. Anne manages her own escape by marrying Richard, Duke of Gloucester, but her choice will set her on a collision course with the overwhelming power of the royal family.

Taking place in England in the mid 1400's, with the main character being Anne Neville, daughter of the "Kingmaker" the Earl of Warwick. He was a master puppeteer to the claimants of the royal power in England. Anne, a young woman, moved with her father through the twists and turns of loyalty. She attened the coronation dinner of the new queen of the House of York. She witnessed her father's gradual exclusion from the court. It was now dominated by the Rivers family, the family of the queen. She fled with her father into exile in France. When she returned it was to take over the throne with her husband. He was killed and within the year she was married to Richard the brother of the King. It was a dangerous like for the royality and the supposed royality. They killed and plunder it was a dark time in history. She finally ends up being Queen, but looses her son. A very interesting story.

I enjoyed this story of Anne Neville, daughter to Richard of Warwick (the Kingmaker). Anne and her sister were used as pawns by their father to further his ambition to rule England thru the King and the York faction and so married his daughter Isabel to the King's brother Clarence and then married Anne to Edward of the opposing faction in the War of the Roses to hedge his bets.

Anne was widowed early in the marriage and was eventually married to Richard of Gloucester who later became King Richard of England and infamous as the possible killer of the princes in the tower and fulfilled her father's goals by becoming Queen.

Thanks for sharing!
