Tourist Season

I really enjoyed this. Would like to read more by this author.
From back cover:
The only trace of the first victim was his Shriner's fez washed up on the Miami beach. The second victim, the head of the city's chamber of commerce, was found dead with a toy rubber alligator lodged in his throat. And that was just the beginning...
Now Brian Keyes, reporter turned private eye, must move from muckracking to rooting out murder...in a caper that will mix football players, politicians, and police with a group of fanatics and a very hungry crocodile.
Gave this to another BookCrosser at a MeetUp.

Received at BookCrossing meeting tonight at Borders in Sherman Oaks. Will read soon.
An interesting book - funny, with engaging characters. I especially enjoyed all of the historical information about Miami (and Florida in general) which was presented in a manner that didn't seem either expository or didactic in nature.
I'd be interested in reading Hiaasen's other work.

Private release on 2/10/04 at BookCrossing MeetUp at Aroma Cafe in Studio City.
Received at a BookCrossing meetup. Third book by Hiaasen that I've read and "Hoot" (a book for young adults) is still my favorite. This author hasn't lived up to the recommendation by a usually reliable source. Oh well, guess he's just not really for me. Not that it's bad, just doesn't catch me like some others.
Thanks so much -- just received today, and looking forward to reading and passing on.
Tourist Season is interesting, twisted, and has a dark comic undertow, classic Hiaasen hallmarks. Written back in 1986, this was my first introduction to Hiaasen; it was nice to read it again after all these years.
A very entertaining book, with interesting characters, and a plot that moves briskly along through a number of twists and turns. The leader of the terrorist group is more interesting than the hero. I found his heart in the right place, even though his methods had a lot to be desired. He is smart and cunning, yet unbalanced enough to keep you constantly cringing that something really bad is about to happen.
Like many of his other novels, this book is a satire of the current problem of invasion in South Florida.
Highly recommend!

Thank you so much Ri for sending this to me! It was a nice surprise and also means I can cross a book off my wishlist! I have really enjoyed the 2 books I already read by this author and have a few other books of his waiting to be read. It may take a while to get to this one but when I do finish it I will either release/relay or trade it.

I started reading this the other day and just haven't gone back to it. I want to read it but right now I am not in the mood. Therefore I will take this along to the next English Bookcrossing Meet-up and either get another copy at a later date or maybe even catch this copy again :)
