"Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny used to live alone in a boxcar. Now they have a home with their grandfather and are spending the summer on their own private island. There is a mysterious stranger on the island with a secret--but that's not the only surprise in store for the Boxcar Children."

Students at my school can't get enough of the Boxcar Children.

(Cover is different -- this book shows four children getting out of a boat onto a dock; the background is light blue.)

Now that summer vacation's here, I picked up this book yesterday afternoon and finished it around 10:00 pm. I love the way the Alden kids are so self-sufficient. They lived by themselves in a barn on an island (with two trustworthy grown men nearby, who often helped them and came by the barn to eat the delicious-sounding meals they cooked).

The tide coming into the cave made an exciting adventure, and I was intrigued to know who Joe really was (although I guessed by the middle of the book, and it was dumb that he refused to go home after his bout with amnesia).

My favorite vignettes involved Violet and her violin. That alone makes me want to read more books in this series. (I also want to get a look at the new graphic novels based on the Boxcar Children.)

Thanks again for sending this to me -- I'll put it into our Little Free Library box outside our school.
