I couldn't think of a better companion for Midsummer than Rebus. He's not an easy one, not the most action-packed either, but a trusty old friend who never disappoints. I remember watching the Question of Blood episode on telly (with Karen Gillan!) and it being somewhat different from the novel. I'd say the book is definitely better, with a lot more complex storyline and characters with more depth. Though the number of cases and people involved in them makes the book slightly hard to follow at times (who's that again? how was he in it all?), it's a very satisfying piece of crime fiction, one that makes your grey cells tingle and do some extra work.
