About the book:
Sarah Clark's life is irrevocably changed at the age of fourteen when her English teacher, Mr Carr, seduces her after class. Their affair is illegal, erotic, passionate and dangerous - a vicious meeting of minds and bodies. But when Mr Carr's wife discovers the affair he has to choose between them and moves to another city with his family. Sarah is devastated and from that day on her life is defined by a series of meaningless, self-abasing sexual encounters, hoping with each man that she will experience the same delicious feelings she had with Mr Carr. Seven years later Daniel Carr walks back into Sarah's life and she is drawn once again into the destructive relationship. Is Sarah strong enough to 'tame the beast'?
About Emily Maguire:
Emily Maguire (born 1976) is an Australian novelist and journalist.
Her first novel, Taming the Beast (2004), was nominated for the Dylan Thomas Prize and received a Special Commendation in the Kathleen Mitchell Awards. The novel aroused controversy for its graphic depiction of a sexual relationship between a young woman and her high school teacher. Her second novel, The Gospel According to Luke (2007) is an account of a relationship between a young Christian pastor and an atheist abortion clinic worker, and deals with the theme of religious terrorism. It was also awarded a special commendation in the 2008 Kathleen Mitchell Awards.
A spyglass into the world of abuse, weakness, strength and perversion....not for the faint hearted.
Half way into the book I was starting to think I'd read this before, but could not remember for sure, nor how it ended. Given the fact that this story totally sucked me in and I read the book in less than 24 hours, I can't really believe that I wouldn't remember it if I had infact read it before.
What a gripping story this was. I'm stunned that this is a debut novel. I found it flawless. Such a strong character who you have such high hopes for but who lets you down at every turn.
Very glad to have Emily Maguire's 2nd novel "The Gospel According to Luke" ready and waiting to be my next read.
Spotted this on AmberC's wishlist.
It is promised out to someone else, but as AmberC only lives at the other side of town to me, it seemed silly not to let this have a pit stop here first.
Thank you for thinking of me and leaving me surprises in my letter box. I will read and return asap. I do have another couple of commitments before I can get to this book, but it shouldn't be too long.
Sucked me in from the beginning too. A very dark story.
Back with me...
This is off to Belgium!
Found this on Bloedengel's Wishlist, and it ties in nicely with the Send your current read RABCK thread.
I hope it's enjoyed.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Hope you enjoy this one. Happy reading!!
Whoo hoo this arrived! I've already started reading & it seems such a lovely simplistic yet not exactly like it seems. I cannot wait to read! (:
I've read this book three times now. Once every year. I love it so much.
I wish the ending was a little clearer. But I suppose it adds to the intrigue. It's just a fabulous little read. I don't want to give it to the little free library because of the heavy subject matters & adult content. I'll keep an eye out for where to send it next (:
