Albert Speer's inside look at the Third Reich and its many players is detailed, meticulous and contains many photos, drawings and diagrams.

A rising architect, Speer was one of the technocrats, the educated few that found themselves in Hitler's inner circle during the time of the Reich.

Speer's character is well-known...a skilled organizer, hard worker, ever willing to please his boss. He keeps the German war machine going toward the end when he becomes Armaments Minister, and not until the end does he realize (allegedly) that it's all going to end.

An instructor on a college course I had for the Nazi Party has dismissed this book and others by Speer as an effort to somehow apologize for his misdeeds and his role in the war and especially the Holocaust.

While you see many intimate details about the characters of Hitler, Goering, Himmler, Goebbels, Hess and the like, I don't feel you really get a whole lot of Speer. What really drove him, and what caused him to close his eyes to it all?
