Attack on Titan 4

I discovered this series via its TV Tropes page, and have enjoyed the first couple of volumes - as well as several episodes of the anime adaptation on the Crunchyroll site here. IAnd, cleverly, each volume seems to end on a cliffhanger, including Volume Three, so I have to keep buying new volumes {wry grin}.
This one opens in the middle of what seems to be the catastrophic failure of a plan to block the hole in the wall, and with Armin desperately trying to talk Eren out of his distracted state; meanwhile, the titans are taking a terrible toll of the squads trying to protect Eren and his team.
It's almost a relief when the story flashes back to the military training of our heroes and their friends - I say "almost", because we already know that many of these people are going to die horribly in the current battle. Still, there are some lighter moments here, and some characters who are memorable for something other than the trauma they've endured - Sasha "potato thief" Blouse, for example. We learn more about how their ascension gear works, about the fighting techniques, the military structure of the country - and all so that it will be that much more painful to see the casualty list in the next battle... (Poor Marco!)
The story continues to get more grisly, with details so appalling that all the surviving characters are showing a haunted thousand-yard stare, and deservedly so. What can possibly be next?

This book's going into my From the Beginning manga bookbox, which will be on its way to its first stop soon. Hope someone enjoys it! [Do check the forum page for the bookbox instructions; I want to keep the contents to the first one to four volumes of longer series, complete 2-, 3-, or 4-volume series, or stand-alone books.]
