I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble after reading about the series on its TV Tropes page. I enjoyed Volume One, and had to see what happened next.

This volume picks up in mid-battle, as the titans start through the breach in the wall. In addition to the amazingly grisly deaths, there are flashback scenes showing a little of the early histories of our main characters, with Armin being saved from bullies by Eren and Mikasa, and with the account of how Mikasa wound up being adopted into Eren's family. [Some serious trauma there; the titans aren't the only evils in this world.]

The battle's going very badly, and Mikasa winds up facing an approaching titan with broken equipment and no hope - but suddenly a new titan appears and attacks the other, tearing into it and every other titan it can reach with amazing savagery! What's going on?

This volume ends with a jaw-dropping revelation, so of course I *had* to get the next one...

(There's an anime adaptation in progress, available on the Crunchyroll site here. I really like the anime, which has an amazing opening theme, and which makes the already-gruesome story even more so.)
