Description from Amazon.co.uk:
"My name is Peter Grant and until January I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (and as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit - we do paperwork so real coppers don't have to - and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May. Then one night, in pursuance of a murder inquiry, I tried to take a witness statement from someone who was dead but disturbingly voluable, and that brought me to the attention of Inspector Nightingale, the last wizard in England. Now I'm a Detective Constable and a trainee wizard, the first apprentice in fifty years, and my world has become somewhat more complicated: nests of vampires in Purley, negotiating a truce between the warring god and goddess of the Thames, and digging up graves in Covent Garden . . . and there's something festering at the heart of the city I love, a malicious vengeful spirit that takes ordinary Londoners and twists them into grotesque mannequins to act out its drama of violence and despair. The spirit of riot and rebellion has awakened in the city, and it's falling to me to bring order out of chaos - or die trying."
Interesting idea and a funny book with dark sides. Some lengths in it though, so I am not totally exited about it - but I will probably still try to read one or more of the other books in the series to see how it evolves.
The book will be released at the bookcrossing convention in Gothenburg this weekend.

I brought the book back from the annual Bookcrossing Convention in Göteborg, Sweden (17th to 21st of April 2013). I tried to take back home as few books as humanly possible (considering the size of my Mount TBR). But this one I just HAD to take! When in my local bookshop, I have been sneaking around this books for months, after it was published. I heard much good about this book from people who know what I like to read. Thank you very much for bringing the book -Baghira-.
This book was slumbering far too long on my Mount TBR! I finally got around to read this book... why didn´t I read it as soon as I got back from the Convention? It was great. I´m currently reading part two - Moon over Soho.
I never quite liked mystery novels (except when Sherlock or strangely enough, sheep, do the investigating). And I would put this as much under mystery as under Fantasy. But it is wonderfully written. And there is a lot of history in it and a lot of interesting facts. I just love it. I could do without Peter having a love life though. It is bound to always go wrong!
I´m goning to take this to the next local meeting in the hope to find someone who loves this book as much as I did...

I´ll take the book to the lokal BC Meetup.
No one at the meetup wanted this book, so I´ll take ist along on my vacation to Costa Rica.

I was in Costa Rica with "delfinnetti" and she gave me this book. I started to read it but it wasn´t finished at the end of our holidays, so I brought it back to Germany (sorry). It was okay, some very funny ideas, but I didn´t like it as much as "delfinnetti".
I will set the book free in a small village near Speyer. Let´s see if it ever gets as far as Costa Rica again.
