When did people stop getting that sick feeling in their stomach when they heard or read the words Pearl Harbor? When will the words Twin Towers not carry such a horrifying impact? I suspect it will be a long time coming...maybe even a generation away, since two years have passed since 9/11 and so much of the emotional horror remains in our psyche. However, I digress. Liberty Falling is a competently written murder mystery about strange events on Ellis Island where Anna Pigeon is staying while helping her sister recover from a serious illness. Much is said about the New York skyline....pre terrorist attacks.....and it gives the book even more of a poignant tone than intended.
I enjoy the Anna Pigeon mysteries...although once again I bemoan the fact that any serious female sleuth worth her salt MUST have guy troubles....why can't they solve the mystery and get some satisfactory lovin' at the same time? Just a lil ol pet peeve of mine.
