This will be my first book by Octavia E. Butler, I am curious as I have heard good things about her. And of course I can't resist a vampire book :P

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

A very readable story, though the writing style makes it feel rather detached. There is quite a lot of world building, and we learn together with Shori about the Ina. It's an interesting idea that vampires might originate from another planet, and how genetic engineering made Shori less vulnerable to sunlight. That she looks like a 10 yr old did make me go eww sometimes.

On its way to my B-day buddy. Sorry I'm late, I hope you had a lovely birthday and that you like the gifts😊

It’s a nice novel, but not the best I’ve read. The idea was good – vampires and new technologies to make them better. But, it sort of drag on, as the main character tries to remember her past but also has to deal with the ones who destroyed her family. The author might had a talent to tell stories, but in my case, while I was reading this book, I just felt that it went on and on. Half the book is spent figuring out who she is and the killers, the other half is spent trying to get them convicted. Overall, it was an average read for me.

I just received this as a surprise belated birthday gift. I am so not into vampires, lol. However, I'll give any book a chance. It will have to wait on my TBR shelf for a time I'm feeling super brave though. Thanks for pushing my envelope!

By the time I opened this book, I had forgotten it was about vampires, lol, so I was as mystified as Shori to discover what was going on. Vampires, or any other horror-type storyline, is not something I enjoy, but I have to admit I enjoyed this one. Shori is super likeable and this story is an intriguing twist on the legends of vampires. It made me wish I could be bitten, lol, and join their community. (I do agree however that her looking like a child and engaging in sex with adult males creeped me out a bit.)

A good, fun read. Hard to put down.

I'm going to save this one for my daughter, who enjoyed the Twilight series when she was younger.
