The Day Watch

Spotted this at 'The Works' - I love it when my wish-list books appear in discount bookshops - my bank balance likes it too.
The second book in the trilogy is a slight departure, as instead of following one character, we are treated to seemingly unrelated stories about the the Dark ones. It starts off with a witch, drained of all her power, sent to recuperate at a children's camp where she regains her magic by feeding on the nightmares of the kids in her care. She falls for one of the other camp teachers, and its only when her powers return that she realises he is a powerful Light wizard. A duel ensues and tragedy strikes.
Then we jump follow a man with no memories, heading to Moscow with only instincts and vague feelings to guide him on a path he has to take. He knows he is of the Dark and enlists the help of the Day Watch, but other than that the things that happen to him are a mystery.
Both stories are linked and its a little convoluted, but the final reveals are good. Like the first book, there is a lot going on here, butt ultimately it is the poor lower ranked beings that take the punishment as their superiors plot and scheme to gain any sort of upper hand in the secret war between Light and Dark.
There is a bit more action in this one - a few more fights and some different uses of magic. I kind of liked following the Dark for a while and learning how they justify what they do and why they are considered dark - some things to mull over.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
