I really enjoy the BBC series, so couldn't resist when I saw this for sale at the local supermarket.

I think, like most people, I came to this book having enjoyed the TV series for so long. And after reading it, you can see why the series is such a hit. Worth writes with a frank honesty that doesn't shy away from the awful parts of her job as a Midwife, but also celebrates all the good things, the love and the comradeship between herself, the nuns, her friends and their patients.

I was slightly blown away by her theory that all human babies are actually born premature - that any other animal of our size would have a much longer gestation period, but that our large brains and heads means that the baby would never be able to be born if it was bigger. It explains why human babies are so helpless at birth, whereas a lot of other animal's offspring are up and about so much quicker. Amazing!

Thoroughly enjoyed the read and looking forward to tracking down the other books that she has written.
