Second in the Nursery Crime series. Inspector Jack Spratt is back, but after a case of a wolf disguised as a grandmother resulted in several people being eaten alive he's been sidelined from the Nursery Crime Division, so when the psychopathic Gingerbreadman escapes the institution where he's been locked up for 20 years, the investigation is given to another officer. In the mean time a woman known as Goldilocks is missing and it seems as though bears are somehow involved. Although Jack is supposed to be on sick leave, he and sidekick Mary Mary are determined to find her. Also contains the obsessive growing of giant cucumbers and a theme park based on the Somme. Brilliantly funny.

I really enjoyed this book. Easy romp through the strange world of Jasper Fforde's Reading, but with a bit more fleshing out of characters than the first instalment had. I especially liked the descriptions of tangential PDRs (which in itself is a beautiful PC-term, isn't it): Punch & Judy were the absolute best! Who would've thought of an habitually fighting couple making money out of the disturbance they create in the neighbourhood...?

Taking on this book as the next in the "Mount TBR 2022 challenge" in the Finnish forum. Have promised to read 6 old books from my shelf and this is the 6th book. I also have some library books on my nightstand so let us see how long it takes me to dig into these new adventures ;)

Most of the bookcrossers in the ray that I think could be waiting for the book are no longer active. Will contact a bookcrosser in Finland who has this book on her wish list and a bookcrosser in the NZ who appears to be an active one if they are interested in the book.

Have been in touch with both bookcrossers who'd be interested in this book. I'll read this next and then send it out.
