Complex story. More about the life path of a decent man, Mark Duxbury, who believes in the American Dream. Work hard, do right, and everything will follow. And so he signs on as a Drug Rep at Ortho, a subsiduary of Johnson & Johnson. He believes in the company, he believes in the product, it saves lives, they told him so, and everyone knows ythat J & J is a moral company.
What follows is the breakdown of the the sytem of safe drugs at a reasonable cost. Procrit was not safe, is not safe, and is still on the market. Changes in how drugs are approved, and how companies can compensate doctors and medical centers to push their one drug unleashed a feeding frenzy by Pharmacutical companies that continues today. A timely book, and one that should make you wary of the industry, and frustrated with the FDA as political pressure and obscene amounts of money ensures that the foxes continue to guard the hen house.
