Commissario Brunetti series
A big box with crime books was left in front of our door - I assume they were meant for Bookcrossing, although there was no note. (Nobody asked for them, either).

The Acqua Alta refers to the High Water which plague Venice when it rains too much and/or the tide is wrong.
The American archealogist who Brunetti met in book 1 as friend of the Italian singer crosses paths again: she is beaten up to keep from an appointment. Brunetti takes the case, which develops into murder when a dead men is found ...
Similar to the last book, one of the topics is again violence against women, though this ends on a better note. The race for Brett at the end is also very suspenseful. (And continuing the trend so far, men kill for money/ honor/ power).
A large role plays the lesbian relationship between the two women - I wonder how much this is a problem in Italy (with the catholic culture) and how much Leon is influenced by the issue this is in the US?
Altogether, average but interesting, with less of the things I found problematic in the earlier ones.

Seems to me I read this one a long time ago, but as I discovered with some of the previous books in this spiral, I don't really remember them so well that I can't enjoy them again. I'll try to include this in my bag when I leave on the second part of my holiday tomorrow, but it might be a tight squeeze. Thanks for making these available and sending.

I had actually read this one several years ago and traded it away. I remembered it being very violent and not really liking it because of that. That remains true, but I do enjoy Brunetti and his crime-side manner. This came back to me via a Donna Leon spiral I've joined, and I decided to pick it up again rather than send it on unread. Once again, I'd forgotten enough of the story for it to be worth reading again.
I'll try to read the second soon and then post them on ... not sure where these go next though??

A skip and a jump and then not to Greece but to Canada... Enjoy!
Received with thanks today. Package 2 is also on it's way to me. I'll be waiting until I get through Package 2 before picking this up.
I enjoyed seeing Brett & Flavia again, though wish the circumstances had been better. This is one of the more enjoyable Brunetti books for me, so far, though I can't really explain why. I can't really say I'm loving that being from the south seems enough to indict someone - this is a running theme through all of the Brunetti books and it's starting to wear a bit thin. I love Paola and the kids - they are definitely the best parts of the books for me.
I've finished the next book already so I'll have these out to MmeClinton in the next week or so.

My apologies - I forgot about these sitting waiting to go out… Got them in the mail to MmeClinton, hope she enjoys!
Received in a package from Janey-canuck, to add to the lovely set I am going to read this summer! No hurry, ever... I am just so pleased to have them!
Fifth in the series! Liked this one a lot. More extensive comments if you wish on my SHelfari bookshelf. Will soon be sending on to next on the ray.
Got this a while ago and just realized I didn't journal it. Haven't read this one yet and have no idea what to do with it when I'm done.
Never got any instructions on what to do with these books so they will be moving on, just not sure where or when. Maybe AAUW in State College, PA
I read the first few in the series and they sort of got to be repetitive. Started to dislike the main character which is always the kiss of death. Never read this one.
