A little belated, but still a very welcome find from the shelves of the KaDeMe.

I read this collection of short stories right before Christmas and it really helped me with getting into the mood. As usual with an anthology, it was a bit of a mixed bag, but on the whole, I was very satisfied. As a rule, I enjoyed the stories more the more specifically "English" they were, i.e. when they had a distinct sense of place.
I was slightly disappointed by the story by Joan Aiken -because she usually is such a favourite of mine-, which left me feeling too much information was missing.
My favourites were The Woodman's Enigma and Across the Fields. It is this last story which made me chose this book for the Rauhnächte Sweepstakes. How interesting the Twelve Nights seem to be a ghost-free time in England, which is just the opposite from the concept of Rauhnächte!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Verlosungsgewinn und viel Spaß hiermit!
Thank you so much for this promising book! I can't wait to see if I'll also like those stories best that you picked as favorites and learn about the ghost-free time in England, which I'll probably do later this year when I'm in Christmas mood again ;)
This journal entry is late...I did manage to read the book around Christmas last year and I really liked the atmosphere in the different stories. Some were better than others though.
