Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found

This is a non-fiction book about Mumbai (Bombay) - not a history, but almost a memoir. The author returned to the city of his youth as an adult, and a journalist. A very modern look at an 'old' city, its characters and its problems - and his engagement with all.

What a great package to get in the mail today! Thank you for the book, the panda bookmark, and the postcard! Even though I can imagine parts of this book are hard to read, I'm looking forward to delving into it.
Really intense journalism of a part of Bombay society that is hard to stomach. The police force essentially works as a gang - acting as judge, jury, and executioner in the streets against the gangs and extortion that are a daily part of life. From there he moves on to "pleasure" following the story of a "bar girl".
