I've enjoyed many of Lansdale's works, from his "Hap & Leonard" mystery novels to his short stories. His work tends to be full of violence, sometimes very dark and sometimes very funny (and often both), so the idea of a graphic-novel treatment of his work seemed redundant - but I still wanted to read it! Found this good-condition softcover from an online book seller.

Later: Interesting collection, with some of the stories making the transition to graphic-format more successfully than others. (Since much of the joy of Lansdale's work is in his dialogue, the stories do retain the flavor of the originals.) There's quite a variety, too, from the poignant what-might-have been story "Trains Not Taken" (in which Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill Cody meet on a train), to the grisly and nightmarish modern-setting story "The Night They Missed The Horror Show". There's a two-part treatment of "Dead in the West," with assorted supernatural villains (with the main one having very, very good reasons for his bloody string of vengeance), the heart-wrenching and creepy post-apocalypse tale "Tight Little Stitches in a Dead Man's Back", and the vengeful-spouse noir-style tale "The Steel Valentine".

As with all of Lansdale's work, this is strong stuff; bad things happen to people who didn't deserve it (as well as to some who did), with no regard for age or vulnerability. Stories that take you to places you hadn't imagined - and may want to forget once you've been there...

Strong stuff. Reminds me of the old EC Comics I used to read while waiting for my piano lessons (Tales from the Crypt, etc.) - except without the clear-cut sense of "bad people get what's coming to them". In this batch of Lansdale's stories, bad stuff happens to pretty much everyone.

Twisted & dark: I suspect Ray Bradbury would have enjoyed these tales. ;)

I read through this graphic novel of Joe Lansdale stories in one afternoon. And I must say the stories are very GRAPHIC! I have read several of Lansdale's novels and short story collections including some of the Hap and Leonard series and have pretty much enjoyed them all. I was kind of mixed on this one, probably because of the comic book/graphic novel approach to the stories. I think I like Lansdale's prose and dialog better in his written novels and stories. To me, the stories in this collection seemed to jump around too fast with many pages having no dialog or descriptions at all. Anyway, I did enjoy some of these including The Grease Trap, Night They Missed the Horror Show, and especially Dead in the West which was a cross between The Walking Dead and Gunsmoke. The stories were very morbid and full of sex and violence in Lansdale's usual fashion. I just didn't care too much to the comic book approach.
