The writer talks about growing up in Hell’s Kitchen. Although the name of the book is A Safe Place, there was nothing safe about his childhood. He and his mother suffered horrendous abuse at the hands of his father, a man who had killed his first wife by smothering her with a pillow.

This is an advance readers edition. I never heard of the author before I read this book. I found it scary how little we value life here in the US. A man can kill his wife and only serve six years. Horrible.
