This is the debut novel of Algonquin Bay's gloomy and complex detective John Cardinal. I had read another in the series, and was impressed enough to ask for this for Christmas. (Thank you Christmas Book Fairy!) When teens start disappearing or running away in the small city, Cardinal makes such a nuisance of himself with his dire theories, and overtime use, that he is demoted to burglaries. Soon however, it turns out that perhaps he was not crying wolf, but no one can quite believe that such things can happen in their small community.
Ultimately, a novel of sin and redemption, it's a good series.
