I quite like it, but it's very different from the movie.

I think like most people, I watched the Mary Poppins movie first before I knew it was based on a book. Let me tell you that if you start reading the book expecting that it is like the movie, you're going to be disappointed! It's not even almost like the movie--it's nothing like the movie and Mary Poppins in the novel isn't quite as lovable as depicted on screen. I found the story to be at times quite dull, quite fragmented and with a poor ending. I know most movies based on books have their differences, but this one is completely different. Thanks to my coursemate who passed along this book to me, I am glad to have finally read the book but I can't honestly say I enjoyed it very much.

i feel the same way you do about the book this time when i read it one last time before giving it to you. thanks for your response to the book; you're the first to let me know you've actually read the book. sometimes i wonder if my giving out the books is going to be pointless or not, if the new owners are going to read them like they should!
