Je conçois parfaitement la valeur de ces liens virtuels mais très forts qui peuvent se mettre en place entre des amoureux des livres. Envoyé à michmaarufa qui croûle sous une pile de livres à lire...

"I houseclean my books every spring and throw out those I'm never going to read again like I throw out clothes I'm never going to wear again. It shocks everybody. My friends are peculiar about books. They read all the best sellers, they get through them as fast as possible, I think they skip a lot. And they NEVER read anything a second time so they don't remember a word of it a year later. But they are profoundly shocked to see me drop a book in a wastebasket or give it away. The way they look at it, you buy a book, you read it, you put it on the shelf, you never open it again for the rest of your life but YOU DON'T THROW IT OUT! NOT IF IT HAS A HARD COVER ON IT! Why not? I personally can't think of anything less sacrosanct than a bad book or even a mediocre book."

Journal Entry 9 by Plinius from Schiedam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Friday, January 23, 2004
Arrived by post today, thanks Solimano!
I'll read this shortly, I'm in need of a quiet time to read, and in the meantime I'll think of the days that I sold books myself...

Journal Entry 10 by Plinius from Schiedam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Tuesday, January 27, 2004
I was thrilled by the main character's description of how she worked at her education: read some pages and hit a snag, take another book to fill up the shortage, read some pages and hit a snag, take another book to fill up the shortage, and so on. I thought I was the only one who worked in such a laborious way. But it's a charming story about nice people and a good read.
Tomorrow I'll put this in the post to Zyana.

Journal Entry 11 by Zyana from Porto - City, Porto Portugal on Wednesday, February 18, 2004
Arrived today in the mail. I'm really looking forward to reading this one. Unfortunately I'm overwhelmed in TBR bookrings at the moment and it will be a while before I can get to this one. Bear with me! :)

Journal Entry 12 by Zyana from Porto - City, Porto Portugal on Friday, February 27, 2004
I found this "2 in 1" book highly enjoyable. It reads blissfully quick and if you found yourself liking the author as I did you'll relish her witty humour and wacky peculiarities.

I'll pass it on to Kiddie in the next couple of days.

Journal Entry 13 by Kiddie from Paris, Ile-de-France France on Monday, March 15, 2004
I received it today, will read ASAP.

Journal Entry 14 by Kiddie from Paris, Ile-de-France France on Sunday, March 21, 2004
I started reading it, and I just couldn't stop. I loved the book very much, it's full of tenderness and humor. My preference goes to the first part, the letters, where you most feel the gap between London and New-York, the education of the people, the reality they live. A very enjoyable book.

I am pleased to say that the book arrived safely, having enjoyed a lovely trip around Europe.

I've a couple of rings ahead of it, but I'm sure that it will be on it's way in the next couple of days as I couldn't resist dipping in and I've already read more than half :o) Thank you for sharing this with me.

Journal Entry 16 by KathyS from Ramsey, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Monday, March 29, 2004
I loved this book :o) and felt so sad that she never got to meet the gentleman friend that she teased and nagged for so many years.

But I think I enjoyed the second part even more. I was born in the East End of London and worked about a 10 minute walk away from Charing Cross Road & Russell Square for many years. I remember all the old bookshops and I visited some of the streets and pubs that Helene visited on her London trip. It was lovely to read her thoughts and feelings about a city that I still love. Unfortunately I had to move away but I have very fond memories of very long walks beside the Thames, through Covent Garden (now an upmarket shopping/restaurant area) and around Regents Park *sigh* This book has been a complete joy to read and I thank Kanapoutz for sharing this with me, and Kiddie for sending it all the way from Portugal :o) Now it is heading to northern europe and Elina in Finland.

Released on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Postal Release in Royal Mail, England United Kingdom.

Sent via Air Mail to Elina today - hope it arrives safely for you :o)

Well...
Sad, sad, sad...this book is stuck in Finland with Elina. She's not replying to PMs from anybody. I have sent her a note by snail mail a few weeks ago, no reply yet.
So it seems this bookring is stopped for now, until I can get a new copy :-(

Journal Entry 20 by KanaPoutz from Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Tuesday, October 26, 2004
YowlYY has offered her copy of 84 Charing Cross Road to replace mine!
Thanks you so much! :-)
Will be going to Olepinto and Markmera soon...

Journal Entry 21 by Elina from Espoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Friday, June 10, 2005
As you all have noticed I've had this lovely little book for a really long time now. I've been facing some serious personal problems and I haven't been able to take care of my Bookcrossing business. For delaying this bookring and all the trouble I've caused I'm really sorry.

Now finally I've had a chance to read 84 Charing Cross Road and I totally fell in love with this little book. I can't really say which part I liked more, maybe the first one with the letters.. no, wait maybe the second part.

Now the book is on its way back to Kanapoutz. Thank so so much for sharing and being so understanding.

Journal Entry 22 by KanaPoutz from Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Wednesday, June 15, 2005
The book's back home!
Thanks Elina for sending it back, I'm glad you liked it, and thanks to all of you who took part in this bookring!
Happy Bookcrossing! :-)
