This a terrific children's picture book that has relevance for adults as well. Mrs. Biddlebox is having a horrible day, but she finds a way to cope with it. The rhyme scheme is fun and the message is powerful - perserverance pays off in the end. There is a twist at the end that is not part of the story. The author Linda Smith died in 2000 after losing her battle with breast cancer. Mrs Biddlebox is based on her experiences. As a cancer survivor, I was deeply affected when I learned that and so were my students.

This was a fun little book that was read to me in class and I felt that it was a little picker upper at the end of class. It had great illustrator and author and I enjoyed it. It brought back memories from elementary school and it made me reflect on all that I have gone through during my school career.

I loved this book not only because it was a childrens book but because I then found out that Mrs. Biddlebox was actually based on the author and her experience with cancer. It was a nice way to put a not so nice thing in words and pictures for children. I liked it very much.

Journal Entry 7 by egogo from Upland, California USA on Monday, September 4, 2006
I loved this book. Smith took every ounce of what makes a bad day, a bad day and turned it into something useful so that one can have good day. In a way, we should all do that if we go through those types of days just set the bad aside and continue your day, and at the end of the day turn the bad into something useful by talking to someone. What a wonderful novel with a optomistic moral that can be taken anyway!

Journal Entry 8 by ashleanne18 from West Covina, California USA on Monday, September 4, 2006
I really enjoyed this book, it was a fun book and it really made you think. This book even though a children book really made you step back and think about life and how you really just need to roll in with the waves. Yes there are going to be days that are just not going to go you way but your going to have to take the lead. Deal with the bad things and think how to make those bad things into something good.

I think this book is really cute. I like how it is a totally optimistic book. The drawings made the book even better. I also enjoyed how once I learned about the author and her cancer I put two and two together and its how she lived her life day by day. :D

This book was very good. It brought back memories which I thought only pre-existed in my childhhod past. It brought a smile to my face. Child or adult, anyone will appreciate the simple, but effective tools the author uses to bring you back to that simple time, with no worries, or responsibilities to deal with, even if only for a moment.

Journal Entry 15 by berserker12 from Claremont, California USA on Tuesday, September 5, 2006
This children's book is about persevering in overcoming obstacles. Though i have not yet experienced a large obstacle to overcome, the book still spoke to me. I enjoyed it very much and the fact that it was read to the class as if we were little kids increased my enjoyment. Wonderful!

I am not accustomed to being read such colorful books anymore, and I really enjoyed the book. Mrs. Biddlebox's sinister attitude reminded me a bit of myself, which I thought was funny. Then, understanding the true story behind this book made me love the book ten times more. It's a really nice way to bring a smile to ones face when having a day like Mrs. Biddlebox was. =]

Journal Entry 26 by the-flame from La Puente, California USA on Wednesday, September 6, 2006
This book was read during class, but I really did quite enjoy the short story. I enjoyed it because it showed the day in the eyes of a person who just does not feel good at all. Its not like your average book, that is all about a happy and not sad life of a princess or something of that matter. But I enjoyed it because it shows in an artistic way how the character gets over their dark and gloomy day.

Journal Entry 27 by allsouledoutx from Baldwin Park, California USA on Wednesday, September 6, 2006

I was first introduced to this book through my English IIII teacher, Mr.Lewis. Im not really sure why he brought this book to a senior class, but I did learn a lesson from its context. Before reading the book the cover caught my eye with its gloomy look, then as Mr.Lewis read on I began to like how each page had its own illustrations along with a nice little ryhm. Then when the book was finished Mr.Lexis explained how this book was written by a breast cancer patient, then I remembered my grandmother(R.I.P) and my mother's past experiances with the illness and I understood more of why Mrs. Biddlebox was how she was. I recomend this book to anyone, young and old, because of its rich illustrations, attractive ryhms, and the background of how this author came to write this book.

Journal Entry 32 by mascow89 from Azusa, California USA on Thursday, September 7, 2006

I "caught" the book during my english class. At first i wasn't to sure what to expect with the childish title of 'Mrs.Biddlebox' but to my surprise it was quite a good book. I guess it is true when they say u shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or in this case its title. The book was a fun story that sounds perfect to read to your younger siblings after they've had a bad day. The pictures really caught my eye and were definitely one of my favorite parts of the book. Overall 'Mrs.Biddlebox' is a fun, easy, and enjoyable book for everyone. =]

This book reminded me a lot of the days when we were still in elementry school, back when we had no worries! At first I really didnt understand the whole adult part of the book, but once the little backround of the author was stated I soon began to realize what the whole story really ment to the author. And how she wanted her readers to react to her story.

Journal Entry 37 by ELEMENOPEE from Diamond Bar, California USA on Wednesday, September 13, 2006
I enjoyed this book because it had an adult storyline but it was written in the form of a children's book. It showed how an individual should try to be as optimistic as possible regardless of the situation. I also enjoyed this book because it reflected the author's life.

Mrs. Biddlebox is a great book because of its pictures and the meaning of waking up in the morning. Having read this book it has helped me to wake up in a better mood in the morning.

I enjoyed the book. I found its meaning to be a good. After finding out what happened to the author of the book i found that its content was from the authors own life.

i liked the pictures in the book and i was able to make the connection between the authors personal life with the book, after mr. lewis told us she suffered with breast cancer.

The illustrations in "Mrs. Biddlebox" were a perfect mirror image of the story. The gloomy, dark pictures parralled Mrs. Biddlebox's bitter, sullen mood. The story is easily relatable for both children and adults alike, because everyone experiances those awful, trivial, tedious bad days. After learning that the story reflected the author's struggle with cancer, I felt even more connected. This past year, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, and I was with her through the struggle, and those gloomy, "Biddlebox" days sometimes seemed like they would never end. The best part of the story would have to be the end, when Mrs. Biddlebox is finally able to overcome her "funk" and turn her awful day into a fabulous night.
