This is the first in what seemed like a small series. However, it keeps growing as it moves away from Ender.
This book focuses on Ender Wiggin, a young child born as a genius to a family of geniuses. It is also a time when births are strictly controlled, and he is an exception. His parents were allowed to have a third, because their children were all so brilliant.
After being tested, Ender is taken to a special school where they're all geniuses, training to fight a war that is light years away. He not only trains to fight, but often has to defend himself from his own schoolmates as the children fight within a pecking order. And Ender is small, so he must learn to battle with more than his body.
This book is full of action and strategy. It's hard to accept the maturity of Ender sometimes, considering his age, but he is exceptional, and perhaps the last chance for humanity.
Future books explore what happens to Ender and the other young children brought to the battle school.
I really enjoyed this book, and the entire series.
