Sending this to rendiru as a surprise addition to her other Maya Angelou book.
I've had to admit to myself, I prefer the strength, presence, grace of Maya Angelou now and the powerful titles of her books, to her actual autobiographical writing.
Yikes - that's hard to say

This arrived as a lovely surprise with the return of a boomerang bookrelay book. This is the only book I was missing for the series of Maya Angelou's autobiograpy. Thank you JDT! I'm really looking forward to reading it. :-)
I just finished this today. This book, which appears to be the second in her autobiographical series, dealt with her life as a teenaged mother struggling to find a way to live while supporting her son. I knew from some of her other books that she had faced many struggles in her life, but this book showed a *very* dark time in her life, with little joy to balance it. It is amazing to me that she survived all these things to become the remarkable woman I see today. It was almost painful to follow her narrative as it exposed the raw hopes and self-delusion of her teenaged self. I am in awe (and a little shocked) that she would share so much with the world.
This book is heading out to visit libertine101 in Australia. :-)
