From amazon.co.uk:
Tony Webster and his clique first met Adrian Finn at school. Sex-hungry and book-hungry, they would navigate the girl-less sixth form together, trading in affectations, in-jokes, rumour and wit. Maybe Adrian was a little more serious than the others, certainly more intelligent, but they all swore to stay friends for life.
Now Tony is retired. He's had a career and a single marriage, a calm divorce. He's certainly never tried to hurt anybody. Memory, though, is imperfect. It can always throw up surprises, as a lawyer's letter is about to prove.

Julian Barnes writes beautifully, it's a mixture between a simple language and dense characters and the story keeps you hooked and you don't really realize it until you're finished and you ask for more.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Here goes this book, travelling to the UK. I hope you like it!
Thank you so much for sending me the book, I really appreciate it!
I am (used to be?) a big fan of Julian Barnes and he definitely is great at evoking a certain atmksphere, but I can't say this book gripped me the same way some of his other books have. I think it may have to do with the fact that I found Tony very unsympathetic and if I can't side with the main character (or at least respect them), I'm out.
