This book could cause some serious controversy, if other people take for granted that a reader should only turn to things that truly interest them. In this case, what am I supposed to be interested in? haha
All jokes aside, I bought this book in the first place because I was intrigued by the writing style. That's what interests me. The subject is harsh, not for the faint of heart, but I enjoyed it overall due to how well-written it was.

The book is about some very strange and unique (to say the least) characters. Before one reads the first lines, one knows that the book is about a very sensitive subject, not an easy and simple read, not a classic summer book for the beach. But if someone is looking for some superb writing then this is it. A demanding book, draws you in and you have to pay full attention in every single page, even the way it’s written doesn’t allow the mind to wander off: time, place and narrators keep changing, so you have to make sure you keep everything in line and follow the plot. The writing is just amazing, with as much foul language as needed for the points to be made, I don’t think they were unnecessary, quite the contrary, I think the writer uses an honest language to give us the full emotions with their intensity and sincerity by the heroes. I’m not denying that the book is rough, with descriptions of violent and abusive acts but I do believe it’s exceptionally written and I don’t think good literature should have taboos. Yes, in a sense the book, the story and the main character make us all feel awkward at times but that’s the purpose of the book and I can’t but admire the fact that the writer gave us such a strong, emotional, weird work.

----SPOILER ALERT----

Although the book is full of references on sexual abuse (of so many kinds), I think the writer avoids clichés and delivers an amazing book with characters that are realistic, with real weaknesses and some sick notions on sex and pleasure. After a certain point in the book we realize we read two different sides of the same story and see how the end of Alice changed everything. Although I read what happened (at least from his side), I didn’t care to put blame on the system or Alice or anyone, I thought that the book was all about how things evolved after some events at a certain time.
I also have to say that the point where the writer speaks to the reader was mind blowing. The attitude was so direct that I couldn’t dare leave the pages unfinished (I even missed my bus stop). It kind of made me feel that the writer was messing with me, reminding me of the heroes of the book messing with their victims/lovers. Very powerful and made me love the book even more.
I found her writing to be just brilliant. Even the tone was different in different spaces, I could really feel the mood in prison, his rage when he was being raped and his victorious joy when he stood up to it, the playful atmosphere with Alice around the lake and the way she was playing with him, everything. I especially liked the interaction of the heroes with the letters and the description of places, bodies, fantasies, memories, sex games, I found them to be characteristic of the mental qualities of the heroes.

Thank you Luz for the reading experience once again! :-)
