A little Penguin 60, one of 3 which I bought at Oxfam because they are a quick read for a short journey or an idle moment and they are always handy as an extra to pop in a parcel with another book or to release into the wild on a whim.
This is one of the little early stories of this author and the heroine is the prototype for Jane Eyre.
I'm afraid I couldn't stir up an interest in this book and only read a few pages.
I took it to a BCUK meet-up in Nottingham on 27 March passed it on to YowlYY.

It will be the ideal small book to carry around and to read while queuing at the post office or at the supermarket checkout...thanks Jalna for bringing it with you yesterday :-)
I will then pass it on to another Bronte fan, probably in Italy.

Did my taste in classics change so dramatically, or why is it that I was utterly bored by this book? I admit that I didn't manage to go further than page 16 (the novel counts 55 pages in total), but I was so annoyed by the characters in the story that I had to leave it.
It is now ready to be passed on, otherwise I will ship it as a surprise with the next book I am sending off...maybe the next reader will enjoy it more than I did.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Neat, small little book. Will be interesting to read a little-known work by a very well-known author.
Caught at Sheffield Bookcrossers' meet. 9.4.05.
This was OK, a decent story, but it's clearly an early work and hasn't got the polish of some of her later works. However, it has still got the idiotically self-sacrificing heroine and cast of highly unsympathetic characters.
Will send with the next book I post.
