Found this world book night copy- 2011 in a charity shop, Forest Hall Newcastle. It didn't have it's BCID on so I have "rescued" and re-registered it. I have already read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it - now available to pass on in a VBB or bookbox.

Difficult to put down.
"Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a "baby farmer," who raised her with unusual tenderness, as if Sue were her own. Mrs. Sucksby’s household, with its fussy babies calmed with doses of gin, also hosts a transient family of petty thieves—fingersmiths—for whom this house in the heart of a mean London slum is home.
One day, the most beloved thief of all arrives—Gentleman, an elegant con man, who carries with him an enticing proposition for Sue: If she wins a position as the maid to Maud Lilly, a naïve gentlewoman, and aids Gentleman in her seduction, then they will all share in Maud’s vast inheritance. Once the inheritance is secured, Maud will be disposed of—passed off as mad, and made to live out the rest of her days in a lunatic asylum.
With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to pity her helpless mark and care for Maud Lilly in unexpected ways...But no one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals."

Amazing story, I really really enjoyed it! I've always liked books about London in 19th century, and this must be one of the best about that time. The atmosphere, the hard life, the surprising events - it was all in this book!

Travelling to Niksu next!
I got the book from the post-office today. Thank you for the book and the bookmark, Chania! You have always such a good books on offer it's hard to resist :)
I finished this during the weekend. A very good read! It took me couple of weeks to read trough. I didn't always want to carry it with me when commuting because of its size and at home my reading time is quite limited. I would have liked to read it quickly but this book needs Reading. You can't gulp it down at one go or two. I liked all the twists and turns the author was creating. If thinking twice all the characters are not very likable but in the end it doesn't matter, I loved the story anyway. I would love to read more from the author.
Thanks Chania for this great reading experience!
