A lot of fiction about this kind of relationship (which is kind of a problematic word to use about Humbert and Lolita to begin with) falls into the "dirty old men apologism" category and makes me roll my eyes. It really surprised me that Nabakov managed to make Humbert someone whose observations I wanted to listen to, even laugh at, yet without ever losing sight of the fact he's a truly awful human being.

It's only a pity that this edition doesn't include the author's original forward, which the introduction describes and would've added depth to the novel's presentation as a description of real events told under a pseudonym.
