Made a trip to The Book Thing of Baltimore yesterday, ostensibly to get books destined for wild release at the upcoming National Book Festival and Baltimore Book Festival. Ended up picking up a few that are first destined for Mt. TBR and may not be read in time for the festivals. This series has been on my wishlist for some time and since *MaryZee* recommended it so highly, I could not pass it up.

I have been wanting to try the Rebus series for quite a while now as I had heard such good things, but I think I am fine not reading any more. The book was quite good, readable, and not slow at all, but was a tad too gritty and procedural for me. The mystery aspect was more the police procedural style than the whodunits I usually read, so while I had a guess as to who the bad guy was and even a slight understanding of possible whys and wherefores, it wasn't exactly based on clues. Rebus is an interesting character with a difficult past (I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, so I have learned some things about the ghastly and sadistic realities of special ops training) but ultimately likable. I can understand why the seires is so acclaimed, but it is not my cup of tea.
