Journal Entry 3 by daffodil-2 at North Walsham, Norfolk United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 22, 2012
Received in the mail today and have already started to read it as just finished my previous read. Thanks very much Miss Sunshine!
This was a very interesting book, very unusual and disturbing. It was written in a very strange way in places, with lots of headings and notes which didn't add to my enjoyment. The story was rather disjointed in places and the flowery prose sometimes made it rather hard to follow. I found it a bit macabre reading a book narrated by "Death" and felt by the end that I was getting to know him a bit too well! Having said that, I was touched by his attitude to his job and impressed that he "only carried the souls of children in his arms" while adults were transported in a much more casual way.
Without going into details to spoil the story I was a little surprised that one character in the book made such a complete recovery from illness after being unconscious in dire circumstances for such a long time-but I was very glad that they did. I loved the relationships that Liesl had with Hans, Max and Rudy.
I liked the little touches of humour such as Death saying "It kills me sometimes how people die".
In general I thought the book was over-long and had a very sad ending but that would be expected with the subject matter.

The book was long winded but I did enjoyed it overall. I liked the characters and the writing.
One annoying thing for me was the little interjections!

I have received this book and looking forward to reading it.
Received safely with thanks! I've wanted to read this for a long time! I have 2 other bookrays to finish first but shouldn't hold this up too long.
This book is very readable, I liked the characters and the story was very dramatic in a realistic way. Only thing I didn't like was the childish style with the death as a narrator, it was a bit gimmicky and unnecessary; the story would have come across even more powerful it is was just told straight. Recommended read nevertheless.

Sending off to the next reader in this bookray.
Looking forward to reading this one.
Just posted off to merrymari in the USA - Enjoy!
Safe and sound at my hands! Thanks :)
on my hands! alexiapapa handed it me this morning.
there were moments where i couldn't stop reading it and others where i forced myself to keep on reading it. many ups and downs and some unnecessary stories/details.
the first 10 or so pages were so strange to my usual readings that i thought i will not be able to get used to the 3rd person narration (Death's) and the interjections. One of the pros of the book is the presentation of the heroes' characters.
however, i think it will be a great movie.
i am waiting for silvia-pco's address to post the book to her.
thank miss sunshine

The book is here! It had been delivered by mistake to another address. Fortunately everyone kind of knows everyone else here so it took it a while (about 2 weeks) but finally the person who received it managed to discover where the correct address was and delivered it to me.
I will read it ASAP. Thank you for sharing!
