Send as part of VBB. Enjoy!
I received this great book as my selection from the General Literature VBB, thanks so much for offering it.
This is the story of 2 young women who are connected although years apart. Claire is a young mother in 1960 who is dissatisfied with her life and slightly obsessed with Jackie Kennedy. Her whole life revolves around her husband who does not seem to want to be bothered until one day when he discovers his wife having an affair.
Vivien Lowe is a young women living in San Francisco in 1919, who completely by accident finds herself writing obituaries for the local paper. These are not the normal obituaries with dates of life and normal facts, as Vivien seems to know the deceased after talking with a family member and brings them "to life". It not only helps the bereaved but also helps Vivien herself cope with the loss of her boyfriend who disappeared after the great San Francisco earthquake in 1906.
When Claire and her husband travel to see his mother for her 80th birthday the story comes full circle and we see what has happened to Vivien after all these years.
I did not know what to expect when I started this book but I did enjoy it and it is now ready to travel on as part of the Wishlist Tag Game.

Arrived safely back in NJ today! (I see it was registered by a Jersey girl, wildflower37, whom I've shared/received some good reads. )
Thank you, bookstogive, for filling one of my wishes in the tag game! I added it to my wishlist after seeing a few blurbs in magazines on the book. I am so excited! I have a couple ahead of this one but I will be reading it very soon and sharing it. Happy dancing on my keyboard!

I was immediately drawn into this story of Vivien (1919) and Claire (1960). As their stories were told, I was deep into their lives: love, loss, and friendship. I could not figure out how their lives would intercept. But it did in a surprising turn. Ann Hood tells a wonderful story. I finished this and did want a little bit more but was very happy with the whole read. No spoilers here. If you haven’t read this author, please give her a try.

Vivien was a strong, well-written character.
Claire was stupid beyond belief, and I kept hoping a serial killer would pop up and snag her.
That didn't happen, but hey, a girl can dream, right?
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this quick read and highly recommend it.
