It was great to get together with a lovely group of friendly BookCrossers in the delightful Kemi's cafe on Saturday during a short break in Wales and the West. This is one of several books I brought away with me - with thanks to ardachy for making it available, although I'm not sure how it got to Cardiff from Colchester!
I read at least 2 nonfictions a month, so am always on the look out for ones that appeal, and this caught my attention because I've been impressed with Melvyn Bragg's writings in the past and because, not surprisingly, I love the English language and the derivation of its wealth of words!

Amazon Editorial Review: "English is the collective work of millions of people throughout the ages. It is democratic, ever-changing and ingenious in its assimilation of other cultures. English runs through the heart of world finance, medicine and the Internet, and it is understood by around two thousand million people across the world. Yet it was very nearly wiped out in its early years. In this book Melvyn Bragg shows us the remarkable story of the English language; from its beginnings as a minor guttural Germanic dialect to its position today as a truly established global language. The Adventure of English is not only an enthralling story of power, religion and trade, but also the story of people, and how their day-to-day lives shaped and continue to change the extraordinary language that is English."

Released 10 yrs ago (9/27/2013 UTC) at BCUK Unconvention 2013 in Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

This is one of the books I'll be making Available when BookCrossers gather in Leeds for the annual UK (un)Convention at the end of September. If it's not claimed from the Book Buffet by an Attendee on Friday or Saturday, then it'll be left lying around somewhere in the City on Sunday morning. I hope it's next reader will let us know where it is! Enjoy!

Over two million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 nearly ten million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
