I've been following the Cake Wrecks web site for years now, and also enjoyed the first Cake Wrecks book, so I was pleased to finally get this hardcover copy of the second collection.

Since I've been following the site regularly, most of these were familiar to me, but it's still an entertaining collection; the "what were they THINKING" quotient is quite high, considering that most of these were supposedly professionally-made! Among my favorites:

(pages 52-53) a rather pudgy Tinkerbelle and an Iron Man that became "Permanent Press Man", with a sidebar in which Jen waxes very punny indeed - while apologizing for a pun;

(pages 60-61) some mind-bendingly awful cupcake-cakes (which are bad enough in concept alone, a bunch of cupcakes wedged together and slathered with an additional layer of frosting, but which here gain some truly painful decorations)

(page 83) "the Ferengi in the elf suit" - HAhahahaha!

(page 95) perhaps my favorite of all, "The Hanukkah Pentagram" - it's not the only Hanukkah cake bearing a five-pointed star, but these take it to a whole 'nother level

(pages 108-109) these are presumably meant to be funny, and are, but not perhaps as intended; there's a cupcake-cake in the shape of a crocodile devouring Santa Claus, a zombie Santa, and what looks like an insane demon monkey saying "Merry Christmas"

(page 129 and following) the "Star Wars Holiday Special" section, which revels in wrecky Star Wars cakes and in nods to that unbelievably-bad TV show. (If you've never heard of it, its TV Tropes page might be a good place to start. And stop.)

Aaaand... pages 174-175 (don't view while eating), with the tragic collapse of an otherwise not-bad-looking cake - and some very bad-looking cakes indeed (to the "Night Before Christmas" line "I threw up the sash", if you get my drift).

[There's a TV Tropes page for the web site as well, with some amusing entries.]

Cake Wrecks is always a blast, and this holiday-themed collection is no exception. The "wrecked" cover is a bonus. ;)

This book was found in the library of Purple58, a very special woman whom I was fortunate enough to meet through our BookCrossing group, the Table of Contents.

Fiercely independent, with a loving heart and a wicked sense of humor, she was passionate about the things she believed in and was willing to stand up and be counted when necessary. She was truly a one of a kind individual, and she will be missed by all of her many friends...who prefer to believe that she's off in Vegas, having a fabulous time and eating as many desserts as she wants.

If you have something to say about the book, or a memory to share about Holly, please feel free to post it here: she was never shy about sharing her opinions, so she wouldn't expect any less.

This book came home from purple58's wonderful send-off with me. I think Holly would have loved her final party and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. (The word cloud in the journal entry was generated from descriptions of Holly by her friends.)

This book will be heading out soon in honor of a special woman who was undoubtedly chuckling as she planned plotted out how she would have us celebrate her life. :)
