I picked up this fair-condition softcover from Better World Books. It's about Nakaya, a 17-year-old boy who, after his mother's death, moves in with his biological father - who's only 33, and whom he'd never met before. Nakaya seems to be something of a delinquent, mouthy and full of attitude, but Shino decides to do this "fatherhood" thing right. Unfortunately, this means taking the best available voice-acting jobs, which lead him into a yaoi story where he's supposed to play a high school student. Awkward!

Since it seems that Shino hasn't been involved with anyone but Nakaya's mother - and hadn't seen her in 17 years - it's rather entrancing that one of his co-workers on the new voice-acting job is a very handsome bespectacled guy. Then again, Nakaya's home room teacher seems rather struck by Shino too...

There are some charming scenes in which Shino battles for the right to keep Nakaya, though the snobbish and cold grandmother has apparently not given up her own claim. And while Shino's OK with Nakaya's staying on the hockey team, he's not so OK with his problems with school - but Nakaya's not OK with his father's yaoi voice work. Can their fragile relationship survive? And it turns out Nakaya has problems of his own...

There's a lot going on here, with the father-son situation, Nakaya's concerns with school and hockey, Shino's voice work - and a possible budding relationship, though it's unclear if he's aware of it yet. Oh, and there are at least two other guys showing an interest in Shino now, which leads to a very funny scene near the end. I wonder what'll happen?

Gentle and intriguing - I like this one.

[There's a TV Tropes page about the series.]

I'm leaving this one in the bookbox, too, because I already own it. Yaoi and ice hockey? How could I NOT have bought this series?! Yes please & thank you :-)

I'd like to follow its future adventures, so I'm journaling it. I hope its next reader loves it as much as I did.

I've been wanting this yaoi graphic novel (and this series) for literally years. I'm finally getting my hands on it! I think I know how I'm going to be spending a good part of my reading time in 2015--trying to catch up w/the entire series!

I caught this book when it came to me in the mail in Carson, but I'm releasing it in Anaheim, where it will travel by mail to San Pedro High School. That school is starting a library for GLBT students and the school's gay-straight alliance.
