Bought in a charity shop recently.
"At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voice -- those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal -- that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment. A gripping emotional drama with the pace of a thriller, Anita Shreve's Testimony explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions."

A really skillfull 'retelling' of the events of an evening at a New England boarding school. At the beginning of the book you wonder how much there can be to write about, but Shreve examines the situation from so many angles, revealing crucial information bit-by-bit that by the end your initial impressions of the characters and events is challenged.

The very first chapter pulls no punches and we very quickly see the events that triggered the scandal. The story is told from multiple points of view, but some of these voices only appear once and I found it very easy to handle as they gradually unfold the effect the event had on many lives. It's a powerful and engaging read.

Somebody has nominated this for our book group's 2015 list, so I'll hold on to it until then.
