Dair mu T'resa leads the bio rescue squad, a team of pilots responsible for space rescue around her home planet of Kevarzangia Two.
Her work brings Dair, a member of an aquatic race, into contac with the very superstitious, and extremely hydrophobic Skartesh, who have fled their own planet to settle on Kevarzangia Two.
This is quite a light and fluffy book, with a good deal of romance embedded in the science fiction, but its also a good deal of fun.
