a sixty year wander through the social changes in America [1920s to 1970s] with the main character Poppy seemingly unaware, cushioned againt the world by her wealth and lack of insight. Sprinkled with family births and deaths, Poppy's family seems to mostly make it through despite Poppy.

I picked this up at a bookcrossing meetup in Wellington. I took it on holiday and left it in the Library aboard the cruise ship 'Celebrity Infinity', which was cruising from Buenos Aires to Antarctica.
I enjoyed the book, but didn't develop much empathy with Poppy.
