The Handmaid's Tale
7 journalers for this copy...
I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it on a ray, so when I saw this copy in a charity shop I picked it up. The cover of this copy refers to a film, and the cover has a shot from the film.
This copy is promised to Olliebear.

Got this yesterday! Thanks Loopy...couldn't get on the internet to journal until today...sorry for the delay.
I have fancied reading Margaret Atwood for a while now but wanted to read this one first...no particular reason except that it intrigues me. We shall soon see as I plan to read this next.

Well, enjoyment isn't really the word I would use for this...it got under my skin. I found myself mildly irritated by the meanderings of it but once I got into it I couldn't stop thinking about it and wanting to know more. The ending came suddenly and although the last chapter helped finish it off somewhat...I find I want to know more. I am glad I read it and will certainly be reading more of Margaret Atwood now I have had a taste.
Not sure what to do with this yet....will post back once I have decided.

Picked off the table at the Unconvention, one I've been after for ages.

One I will definitely be seeking another copy for to add to my personal collection.
It doesn't take a huge leap, in today's current climate, to imagine Atwood's Gilead, and it is, for me at least, a nightmarish vision. Women being kept for breeding purposes and forbidden to read and write or do anything to ease the daily monotony, the fundamentalist attitude to life and the choices people make.
The story got under my skin and I found myself thinking it over whilst away from the book. Definitely one of Atwood's better books.

Journal Entry 10 by Cayenne-UK at piazza dei miracoli (fuori il duomo) in Pisa, Toscana Italy on Wednesday, September 6, 2006
I found the book on a window ledge in the old part of Pisa, Italy. I was very happy to have found an english book to read since I was out of reading material in English or French and I do not speak Italian.
