Well, three years later, and the book finally went with me for a seaside holiday. ;)
Interesting story and writing style, though I did find it a bit deliberate at times, hearing the writer's voice instead of the characters' voice, which drew me out of the story. But this happened only occasionally and I enjoyed the book quite a bit.
