Touching the Void is the heart-stopping account of Joe Simpson's terrifying adventure in the Peruvian Andes. He and his climbing partner, Simon, reached the the summit of the remote Siula Grande in June 1995. A few days later, Simon staggered into Base Camp, exhausted and frost-bitten, with news that that Joe was dead.
What happened to Joe, and how the pair dealt with the psychological traumas that resulted when Simon was forced into the appalling decision to cut the rope, makes not only an epic of survival but a compelling testament of friendship.

This has been on my wishlist forever. Thanks to Beqi for bringing it along.
I had seen the film and wanted to read the book. As it was by the time I got my hands on a copy I could hardly remember much of the film and wasn't sure what I'd make of the book.
Reading the story the film came back to me. I think I enjoyed the film more purely because I'm not a climber and the book is very climber/mountaineer technical detail specific. I didn't understand half the terminology to do with snow/ice etc so for me that detracted a bit from the gripping amazing story the book was telling.
It's absolutely amazing that Joe didn't die - let alone made it back to camp by himself.
