Wildflower: An Extraordinary Life and Untimely Death in Africa

Ever since my trip to Africa a few years ago, I've been fascinated by that area of the world. Wildflower is a biography of a dedicated environmentalist in Kenya. The book covers Joan Root as a shy young woman; her whirlwind courtship and marriage to Alan Root; their twenty years of nonstop adventure wildlife filming in Africa; the shattering disintegration of their marriage and partnership; and Joan's triumphant struggle to reinvent herself as the protector of her lakeshore community's fragile ecosystem - a struggle that would lead to her tragic, violent death.
While I found the book extremely interesting, I was not so taken with the writing style - too journalistic for my taste.
I did read that this will be made into a movie, produced by and starring Julia Roberts.

I loved reading this book about a very brave woman. Although sad, I found it fascinating. Enjoy!

I am ashamed that I didn't register the book earlier.
Here it is. Thanks, Valpete!
I too am fascinated by Africa and its environment, as well as figures such as Dian Fossey or Jane Goodall. I hadn't heard of Joan Root before, presumably, the Vanity Fair article which precludes the book. I was very taken by Joan Root's story, moved by her courage despite the failures of her life, and shocked by the ending. A must-read for conservationists world-wide and Africa lovers.
Edit to add: as no one on Bookcrossing seems to want the book, I will keep it it my collection for the time being.
