Iain Banks is always a great read. In this political drama a famous cellist is travelling through the Panama Canal when her ship is hijacked.

I liked this book.
Hard to tell exactly why, what it was that kept me reading, but I guess it is just that melting pot of suspense (hijack), politics, love, relations that did the trick.
The tension was almost tangible at times, a nice book.

Quite embarrasing! I forgot to journal the book when I rescived it, and then it went lost in my Home for a year(!), until it popped up again yesterday during a huge cleaning and clearing session. I was both embarrased and relieved to find the book, and as compensation to the former readers, I have allready finished reading the first chapter. Thank you for sending me the book, Boekentrol! I'll have to dive deeper into it before I can decide what to think of the book.
Exciting book! I agree with most everything Boekentrol says about reading the book. Only that I didn't think it was nice. It was to brutal to bee nice. But very, very exciting.
I do wonder what happened next with the Hisako! She survived, but not without costs. It will take a great author with lots of psycolocial insight to write a follow-up book about the rest of her life.... The canal dreams turned out to be an everlasting night mare!
The lay-out is a bit confusing, I would have prefered some change in the letters to make me easily understand if I read about her past, present or if she was dreaming. In the same chapter the story switches between these three sceneries without any sign telling me when the view change. That made me have to stop reading several times to go back and find where the view changed. If english had been my native language that might have been easier understood?

Enjoy!
Thank you for this RABCK!
Quite frankly, I'm not sure what to think of this novel. It is the kind of book it is hard to put down and even so I'm not certain I really like it. I couldn't fully grasp Hisako Onoda's destructive behaviour . I think I will ponder over this novel for quite a while.
