“When its gone, you'll know what a gift love was. you'll suffer like this. So go back and fight to keep it" - Enduring Love
From LibraryJournal:
After the calm of a pleasant afternoon picnic is punctured by a terrible accident, a man falls to his death as a hot-air balloon floats away, carrying a child. Joe Rose finds himself imbedded in the aftershock. One of several men who tried to hold down the balloon but eventually let go, he must reconcile his part in the tragedy with the threat posed by a stalker trying to save him through love. In turns obsessively morbid and cunningly funny, McEwan's deftly crafted prose holds the reader with the intensity of a thriller while engaging in a deep psychological exploration of shock, grief, the need for redemption, and, ultimately, the makeup of compassion and love.
And it's a ring! Tentative order:

Wal-89 - UK (EU)

This book is still with me. I intend to read it soon. If I won't get to it within the next two weeks, it'll go to the next in line, Wal-89.
Journal Entry 8 by Boekentrol at Leeuwarden, Fryslân (Friesland) Netherlands on Sunday, December 30, 2012
It took me quite a while to start reading this book and when I finally did, I wasn't sure I'd make it to page 100.
But... I'm glad I sticked with it, because somewhere around page 60 I started to like the book. I'm not so enthousiastic about it as some other readers of whose reviews I've read, but it was a nice read. It gave me the creeps.
Realising that what is written might be fiction, but might easily become reality too. There's hardly any protection against something (someone) like this... No, I really don't want to think about that very much. Just hope it'll never happen around me.
I don't think it was a great book, but I'm glad I read it :-)

And finally this book continues its journey to the next in line, Wal-89. I'm very sorry it took me this long.
Happy reading!
Happy reading!
Sorry it has taken so long to journal this book. My sister told me it had arrived at her house, but we haven't had chance to meet up since! Thanks for sending. I have quite a few bookrings before this one, so will hopefully get round to it soon :)
Well...I'm not too sure what I thought about this book. I found it really hard to get into and every time I picked it up, I struggled to pay attention! However, the last few chapters managed to keep me entertained and I liked reading the conclusion to the story. I liked the main character and the writing style was interesting but I think this will probably be the last Ian McEwan book I read, he goes off on too many science-y tangents for my liking and I lose concentration.
Thanks for sharing and will be off to the next participant when I get the address =)

Now with me, thanks gussy916 for organizing and wal-89 for shipping :) I have one more book to read before this one, but it shouldn't be long before that happens.
Impressive and with an unexpected theme that echoes one of my all-time favourite movies (if you liked this book, you should see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291579/ ). Once again Ian McEwan handles a couple of sensitive subjects in a thrilling way. The book was intense, the perspectives were well shaped and I wouldn't have sworn I found the butler until the last dozen pages or so.
Thanks for sharing, soon to travel to the next reader.

Now travelling to pam99 in Scotland. Thank you all for sharing this captivating book!
arrived safely this morning - with great excitement as it was accompanied by an order from bookcrossing and a big bundle of union papers, so the postie had to ring our (brand new) door bell - waking the whole house and sending the dogs into orbit. At least we know it works! Had just started another book last night but this will be next.
an intense and engrossing read, I really liked this book (and I love this author) but unfortunately I was reading it during quite a busy week, so I kept only getting to read a little bit at a time! The sort of book you could just read and read.
I've got the next reader's address so it will be off to Australia this morning - surface mail I'm afraid, but it might hitch a lift on a plane!

The book arrived safe & sound today. Thank you to gussy916 for starting the ring & a big thanks to PJLBewdy for mailing all the way from Australia! :)
I have finished the book and contacted the next person on the list. It will be on its way again once I get the address.
This is the 1st book by Ian McEwan that I've read. I really didn't care for his writing style but I am happy to be in this bookring.

The book is now headed to sunny CA. :)
I look forward to reading this. I read On Chesil Beach by this author just a short time ago and loved it.
Thanks, all, for your patience. Although it took me a while to get to this book, I loved it! I do like McEwan's complex writing style. The title "Enduring Love" could have described any number of "loves" in this book. I think this would be a great book for a discussion group.
Returning this to the BCer who started this ring. This book has been on quite a journey!
