stunning book that tells a dark tale, weaving together the multi threads of an urban community. secrets from the past return to haunt and inform the actions of the protagonists. things don't always turn out for the best. and the movie is great!

I finished this book a couple of nights ago. While I was reading it, I went to see the movie. I like being able to compare the book to he movie (the book always wins, wonder why... ;)). I must say I was some what disapointed by the movie. It gives us nothing new!... I mean, that's the kind of story we have already seen many times, with different characters... The book was a very good surprise! Specially after the disapointing movie! I really liked it!
In the book we can see all the complexities of the characters, know all their doubts and fears, really get into their minds and souls. In the movie they just seem so...empty!
So, I really liked the book! Specially for being so much more complex than the movie!
Thanks, lisaxiii, for the chance to read it!

Thanks witchie for sending the book. It has arrived safely today.

A very good book. It took me a little while to get into, but them I appreciated it very much. A well constructed story, which makes me think of a Greek tragedy, interesting characters, well written, yes, a book well worth reading. Thanks again!

30.03.: sent back over the pond to Tyressia

I've been trying to read this book for a couple of weeks, and finally decided to give up. I couldn't get into it at all. I found all the characters shallow and self absorbed or worse - whiny. The entire "poor me, I'm a victim of circumstance" theme seemed hollow, and I never grew to care for any of the characters.

I heard that the ending was worth it, unfortunately, I couldn't make it there.

The book will soon be on its way to lemondrop622!

Wow. I finished this book yesterday. I was hoping to finish this book in one week, but I ended up finishing it in several days. There were just times where I couldn't put the book down and I wanted to see what would happen next.

I found the book to be very interesting, the characters all seemed to be connected in some way. It made me think about "fate" and how maybe if one thing did not happen, how that would change everything else. I would not call this a happy read, as much as I liked it. There are very tragic, sad moments and I even cried while reading it. And there are suspenseful and surprising moments. I'm sorry I'm being vague, but I don't want to spoil anything for future readers. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie now, although I'm sure the book will be better. :)

Thanks lisaxiii for starting this ring! I will be sending this off soon for spaceystacey.
