This was an impulse buy from a sales table at Powells. I believe another book of hers was mentioned in the book talk forum so I recognized the author.
This story is about love. The main love story, as the title tells us, is the deep bond between the two main characters, Anju and Sudha, who are closer than sisters. But other types of love -- romantic love, motherly love, brotherly love, and so on -- also play key parts in the story. Each chapter is narrated from the point of view of either Anju or Sudha as they grow from young girls into women. I felt that the author really captured the two different voices of these characters and also showed how they matured.
I really enjoyed this story and all its twists and turns and the family secrets that are gradually revealed. Sometimes you want to yell at one of the characters, "Wait, don't do that!" And yet you know exactly why she's going to do it anyway.
