Oh dear, this is a hard one. I have never yet put a book into BookCrossing that I was given as a present... But this one, which I had for my birthday in January, I just know I'll never read again, so I hope I can be excused for this rude act.

"Black Beauty", the story of a stallion in Victorian England, told by "himself", is one of the most well-meaning books I've ever read -- and on of the most boring! From the peaceful youth of the horse and the description of his kind masters and grooms down to the good food he enjoys and his nibbling straw in well-aired stables... one cannot imagine how tiring all this harmony is! And even when our four-legged hero is tortured with a fashion-implement called the 'bearing rein' and brought down by destiny to be a lowly cab-horse, he is still so gentle and forgiving that he just wishes that people "would think more about the feelings of animals".

The author wished to enlighten her contemporaries and make them become more sentitive to the needs of the animals that were part of their everyday lives... but as noble and neccessary as her cause might have been, the result is as entertaining as reading a phone book. Sorry!!!
